As followers of Christ, we eagerly await the glorious day when our Savior returns to reign forever. While we don’t know the exact timing, Scripture provides clear signs that Jesus is coming back and that His second coming is drawing near. In this blog, we’ll explore some of the major signs and look at practical steps we can take to ready our hearts for His imminent arrival.
8 Signs Showing Believers That Jesus Is Coming Back
1.    Increase in Deception and False Prophets
One primary sign is the rise in deception and false prophets (Matt. 24:4-5,11). In today’s world of rampant misinformation, it’s vital we study God’s word daily to discern truth (2 Tim. 2:15). Subtle lies can lead us astray if we don’t hold firmly to sound doctrine. We must be on guard and test all teachings against Scripture to avoid being led down the wrong path.
2.    Global Preaching of the Gospel
The gospel will be preached throughout the entire world as a testimony to all peoples (Matt. 24:14). Through missionaries and technology, the message has reached even remote tribes. Some key events included William Carey‘s pioneering modern missions in India in the late 1700s. More recently, advances like shortwave radio, films, and the internet have accelerated global outreach. Now, through satellites and digital media, there are few places left unreached.
3.    Wars and Natural Disasters
Jesus warned of wars and rumors of wars becoming more frequent (Matt. 24:6-7). From 1900-1999, there were 148 armed conflicts in which over 108 million lives were lost. The deadliest century on record. Natural disasters will also intensify – earthquakes, famines, and pestilences (Luke 21:11). Climate change is amplifying hurricane, wildfire, and drought severity. The increasing instability will contribute to greater unrest and upheaval worldwide.
4.    Love Will Grow Cold
Many will turn away from the faith and not persevere due to lawlessness spreading and the love of most growing cold (Matt. 24:12). Apostasy, immorality, and indifference toward God seem common even in once-Christian nations. As society deteriorates, it becomes increasingly difficult for believers to stand firm in their faith. The pressures will drive some to fall away, lacking sincere love and devotion to Jesus.
5.    The Abomination of Desolation
When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, understand its desolation is near. Then, those in Judea must flee to the mountains (Luke 21:20-21). This alludes to the antichrist’s soon dominance in the end times. However, before this prophecy is fulfilled, there will likely be further political and military clashes around Jerusalem involving neighboring nations.

6.    Celestial Signs and Planet X Theory
There will be signs in the heavens like darkened sun/moon and stars falling to earth (Matt. 24:29; Rev. 6:12-13). Some believe this hints at inbound Planet X/Nibiru, which is said to cause earth changes as it nears. While speculation, such a celestial body could cause intense seismic and weather effects. The approaching object may be visible already, heralding the unfolding of end times disasters.
7.    Great Tribulation and Revelation Events
Nothing will compare to this unprecedented time of judgment (Matt. 24:21). It’s thought the Revelation seals, trumpets, and bowls portray these climactic end-time disasters and the unleashing of God’s wrath. The antichrist’s rise and reign of terror will culminate in Armageddon where Jesus returns victorious. Believers will face intense persecution during this time as the Antichrist consolidates global power.
8.    Israel’s Regathering
Jesus indicated the last generation would see Israel become a nation once more before his return (Matt. 24:32-34). In 1948, Israel was reborn, fulfilling Biblical prophecy after 1,900 years of exile – a striking sign that Jesus’ words are unfolding rapidly. The rebirth of Israel after so long was truly a miraculous fulfillment of prophecy signaling the nearness of Christ’s return.
Preparing Your Heart for “His Second Coming”
It’s evident from all the signs discussed above that Jesus’ return is near. But, are we prepared as believers to welcome the Bridegroom? Here are some ways you can begin your preparation to welcome Christ into your life and this world:
- Make sure of your salvation foundation first and foremost. If you’ve never received Christ by faith, be sure to repent and trust him today. Without this initial step, other efforts to prepare won’t matter eternally (Acts 3:19; Eph. 2:8-9).
- Purify your life through confessing sin and pursuing holiness. Without sanctification, you’ll lack the strength needed to persevere through trials ahead (1 John 3:3; Titus 2:11-13). Draw close to God in prayer and his word daily.
- Live boldly sharing Christ. Though persecution will rise, go in the Spirit’s power, aware the fields are ripe for harvest (Matt. 28:18-20; Acts 1:8). Look for openings in conversations to give reasons for your hope in Jesus, either online or face-to-face.
- Pray earnestly and constantly. Jesus warned a time of severe testing is coming when many will betray one another, so we must be found watching and praying regularly to stand strong (Matt. 26:41; Luke 21:36).
- Fellowship with and build up other believers. We need each other’s encouragement and accountability now more than ever. Meet regularly, pray together, and see how you can assist those in need materially or emotionally (1 Thess. 5:11; Heb. 10:24-25).
- Stay ready by reading your Bible and keeping Christ-centered priorities. Don’t get weighed down by the world’s anxieties or concern for pleasure and riches. Fix your eyes on Jesus, persevering with joy, for your redemption draws near! (James 5:7-8; 1 Peter 1:13)
Christ’s return will be glorious beyond imagination. While we wait expectantly, let’s prepare our hearts through faith, obedience, prayer, and sharing the gospel. The signs say He’s coming soon! Are you ready to meet your Bridegroom? We hope this blog has helped provide both awareness of the times and practical wisdom for living victoriously as Jesus’ faithful followers. His triumphant appearance will be the fulfillment of all things. May He find us watchfully awaiting that great day!
